Object: Set up a small goat cooperative for women

Description of activities : Construction of goat shelters, forage crop and forage reserve, purchase of dairy goats.
Status of the project: Finished and autonomous.
In the Kikuyu country at 20 km from Nyahururu, a group of Kite village’s women and around wish to set up an economical activity.After several months of common and think thank work the idea, of dairy goat farm is decided.
The « Kite women group » is registered and a banking account open.Women will work in group in three distinct areas and will share the benefits. The slopy terrain and the scattering of livehoods make difficult a one dairy goat farm for all the women.
A study realized with the veterinary surgeon of the county showed that one crop year was necessary to obtain forage before purchasing the dairy goats. The building of three shelters will be done in the same time on three places having a wells nearby.
At the end of 2012 buildings are finished, forage is in stockage and the group organization is done : one leader for “Kite Women Group”, a treasurer, a secretary and three groups chiefs for the account signature.The purchase of pedigrees’ goats started at the beginning of 2013. Each group get organized to share duties.
At the end of 2013, during our visit, some goats get already kids. Kite’s women, also, save money in order to buy a billy. Management of the project is rigorous and it has become autonomous.
